Mediatek presents the new Helio G85 chipset
Mediatek has unveiled its new chipset Helio G85. The Taiwanese chipmaker has provided the technical specifications of the SoC, which comes with one GPU slightly faster compared to that of the Helio G80 model while maintaining the same CPU.
Helio G85 integrates two Cortex-A75 cores at 2.0 GHz e six Cortex-A55 units at 1.8 GHz. The Mali-G52 GPU now clocks at 1GHz, unlike the Helio G80 which could count on a speed of 950MHz. The chip has all the features of the Helio G80 such as VoW (voice on wakeup) and the advanced HyperEngine Game technology.
MediaTek says the chip will be able to intelligently predict the availability of Wi-Fi and LTE networks so much that the chip will be able to switch between networks in just 13 ms, a fraction of time enough to provide a connection without latency.
The new chip will also ensure faster response between radio cells and the mobile phone will be able to handle incoming calls during game sessions without interrupting the data connection; something not obvious even on the main flagship smartphones.
Mediatek has already started distributing Helio G85 to the producers. It is therefore legitimate to foresee that the next devices included in the 200 euro price range will be equipped with the new chipset.
