Android TV could become Google TV
9to5Google reporter Stephen Hall said in a recent article that Android TV should be renamed “Google TV”. To report it is an internal source that confirms how the information boils down to this simple statement. However, this decision deserves reflection.
First of all, if the Android TV brand were renamed, this would confirm a strategy already observed for some time: propose the name of the company instead of that of the operating system.
The American giant prefers to offer its brand and concentrate much of its efforts on Google Assistant. With these objectives in the viewfinder, “Android Messages” becomes “Google Messages” and “Android Wear” becomes “Google Wear OS”.
The move from Android TV to Google TV would be just another milestone in a much larger project. In 2010, the Google TV service was introduced, a sort of ancestor of Android TV that has now been forgotten.
